For 10 years, I have worked in Hawai'i as a Speech Language Pathologist while becoming more involved in both ocean athletics and ocean conservation. Throughout my career I would bring stories and photos of turtles, whales and beach cleanups back to students, sharing the underwater world, integrating its wonders into therapy strategies.

Speech Refers to the production of sounds/words/phrases. Breath from our lungs passes through vocal folds and is shaped by 'articulators': tongue, jaw, hard and soft palate, teeth and lips. A speech language pathologist helps with articulation, voice and fluency deficits.

Language Communication is our receptive (understanding) and expressive (production) use and abilities in the language(s) we speak. A speech language pathologist helps with syntax (grammatical rules), semantics (word meaning) and pragmatics (social context).

These activities are ocean and conservation-themed, while targeting language development, processing and fluency.
